Marshall University Minority Health Institute is pleased to announce a vacancy position for Health
Education Specialist for the Unicare-Marshall University Minority Health Institute Community Investment Grant.
This is a salaried full-time position.
We are interested in an individual with a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Public Health or from an accredited institution.
Expected activities associated with the development and management of the community investment grant program include but not limited to the following:
Development and management of health education programs that address awareness, prevention, and management of COVID-19 among the African American and Hispanic populations throughout West Virginia.
Management of health education programs that focus on the prevention, awareness,
screening, vaccinations, and contact tracing for vulnerable populations and minorities.
Work with project team to promote and disseminate information pertaining to project activities.
Collect and analyze data to learn about communities of program’s target population.
Develop workshop educational materials intended to educate program participants about health risk factors associated with COVID-19.
Supervise Community Outreach Workers that will work with you in implementing health education
programs designed to improve health conditions among the target population.
Recruiting people who have diabetes, use tobacco and opioids to decrease the impact of social
determinants of health (SDOH) that adversely affect the health of minorities in West Virginia; work with project team leaders in achieving the goals of the program.
Travel is required for this position.

Required Qualifications
Education
Master’s Degree in Public Health or Social Work
Experience
Professional Experience:
• 0-5 years of experience in public health.
Specialized Skills:
• Proficiency in health communication, program evaluation, community organizing, or experience working with specific populations (e.
g.
, minorities, vulnerable populations, individuals with health conditions).
Knowledge of Health Issues:
• A strong understanding of public health issues, health disparities, and the social determinant of health is often expected.
Familiarity with evidence based practices and current trends in health education is also beneficial.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: •
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
Health Education Specialists must effectively convey health information to diverse audiences.
Interpersonal skills are crucial for building rapport with communities and clients and collaborating with healthcare professionals.
Program Planning and Evaluation:
• Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating health education programs/workshops is often required.
This includes skills in needs assessment, curriculum development, and assessing program effectiveness.
Cultural Competence:
• Cultural competence is increasingly important.
Experience working with diverse populations and understanding cultural nuances in health communication and education contribute to effectiveness in this role.
Technology Proficiency:
• Familiarity with relevant technology, including health education software, data analysis tools, and multimedia platforms, may be necessary depending on the position’s responsibilities.
Adaptability and Continuous Learning:
• Demonstrate adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning through professional development and staying informed about industry trends.
