The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College is seeking a Head Coach of Men's and Women's Swimming and Aquatic Center Director.
Under general supervision, oversees the development and launch of the varsity Swimming program at the University of Rio Grande.
The person in this full-time position will manage all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to, practice planning, game preparation/scouting, in-meet coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, team travel, equipment/apparel purchasing, staff supervision, academic monitoring, and general supervision of student-athletes.
This position will be responsible for all aspects of the Rio Aquatic Center.
This position will report directly to the Athletic Director.
JOB PURPOSE:
The position is responsible for recruiting and coaching swimming student-athletes.
The coach will work significantly with the student-athletes and athletic director to provide leadership to help our student/athletes grow both in the academic area and the competitive area.
This position is responsible for the enforcement of all policies, rules, and regulations in effect for the aquatic areas, programs and staff.
The coach will also work with other head coaches, admissions and financial aid staff and other campus employees to ensure a positive student/athlete experience at the University of Rio Grande.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruiting and retaining student-athletes for the Swimming program meeting specific roster sizes
Collaborate with the Office of Admissions for recruiting and enrolling prospective student-athletes
Ensuring that program recruitment activities adhere to University and NAIA Policies and Procedures.
Working with the Compliance Director to ensure the program follows NAIA regulations
Provide leadership for the team; establish coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student-athletes’ skills and teamwork; analyze team performance and adjust strategies as needed.
Coordinating in season and off-season, practice and competition schedules
Assisting with team travel
Running camps, clinics, and promotional events if applicable
Continuously ensuring personal behavior and program reputation are in alignment with the institution values and mission
University Contribution – the coach, the staff and the student-athletes contribute positively to the university.
Monitors, assists, and nurtures student-athletes’ academic progress at the college
Responsible for distributing athletic scholarship to the members of the Swimming team
Manage the Rio Aquatic Center.
This position is responsible for maintaining pool cleanliness, proper chemical balance, and all other safety issues as to meet state health department guidelines and our liability insurance expectations.
This position is responsible for scheduling All events (practice, rehab, etc.
) relating to the pool.
Other duties as assigned by the athletic director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree
Certified Pool Operators License (CPO)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree
Aquatic Facility Operator Certification (AFO)
Experience in collegiate swimming coaching
Experience recruiting high school and/or college students.
Demonstrable teamwork and team building skills
Demonstrable priority setting and organizational skills
