GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Biomedical Engineering Manager.
The Biomedical Engineering Assistant Tech's primary job function is to assist in testing, repairing, and calibrating medical equipment per manufacturer or hospital recommendations using all safety precautions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
Enrolled in a Medical Electronics program or related field with expected graduation date within 12 months
Licensure:
BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers)
BLS Certification within 90 days required
Experience:
Two years of related experience preferred
Interpersonal Skills:
Moderate level of communication skills is needed to interact with patients, coworkers, vendors, and other professionals.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
Must be skilled in all equipment used within the department including computers, digital multimeters, clinical simulators, and performance devices.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Stands and/or walks up to 4 – 6 hours with normal breaks when working, conferring with medical center personnel, demonstrating proper work methods, and installing, repairing and performing preventive maintenance on a variety of clinical and non-clinical equipment.
Must have the ability to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, fine manipulation, and pushing and pulling when installing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on clinical equipment.
Bending, squatting, and reaching above shoulder level are required when performing preventive maintenance and routine clinical and non-clinical work.
Essential Mental Requirements:
Has occasional contact with the customer and general public when working.
Works under minimal supervision and most of the time without the assistance of other personnel.
Requires the ability to frequently cope with deadlines and adjust to irregular activity schedules, as well as pay attention to detail when observing equipment disassembling devices, making repairs, and maintaining logs.
Essential Sensory Requirements:
Good vision is required when reading technical manuals, must be able to effectively communicate with various medical center personnel when determining repairs and installation needs.
Exposure to Hazards:
Could be exposed to chemicals,body fluids, loud noise, and electrically stored or active energy.

Assists with scheduled clinical equipment and preventive maintenance inspections following the SOMC Planned Maintenance (PM) policy.
Assists with service calls/repairs in a timely manner.
Maintains and supportd clinical monitoring systems, nurse call systems, and other associated networks.
Demonstrates medical equipment repairs and reports incidents following the Joint Comission recommendations.
Assists with and supports clinical staff on the proper use of clinical equipment.
Supports department staff education.
Establishes work priorities ensuring efficient utilization of work time.
Performs other duties as assigned.
